Screenshots help explain

A picture is worth a thousand words

When you are making edits to your site, and things aren’t working as you expect them to, sending a “picture” of what you are looking at can often explain the situation so much more easily than a text description.

On the Mac OS X, the easiest tool for this has been built into the system for a long time. On MS Windows, this has only been true since Vista, but there have been and are lots of free applications available. The basic idea has to be the same, so I will start by explaining how it works on the Mac.

In your Applications folder, you will find Preview (or Preview.app). If you open this, under the File menu, you will see Take Screen Shot.

On MS Windows, the traditional approach has always been as described here.
